Abstract

Background: Handwashing can be part of the actualization of personal hygiene. Hand one of the important parts of the body in doing the work, is no exception to the workshop workers. Workshop workers almost every day relate to irritant materials and allergens. Contact Dermatitis is caused by ingredients or substances that stick to the skin. Contact Dermatitis can cause the skin to become red, blister, dry and chapped. Symptoms can affect any part of the body but are most common on the hand and face.

Method: The research is observational analytic, with a cross-sectional approach, assess the habit of hand-washing and then connect with the incidence of contact dermatitis due to work. Data retrieval was conducted in September 2022. The workshop worker population amounted to 100 people, the sample taken as many as 78 people using random sampling techniques. The statistical test used is the Chi-square test.

Result: As many as 78 respondents who meet the inclusion criteria obtained by workers with good hand washing habits and not having OCD are 24 respondents (80.0%), while workers with good hand washing habits but having OCD are 6 respondents (20.0%). Workers with poor hand-washing habits but not having OCD as much as 3 respondents (6.2%) While workers with poor hand-washing habits and having OCD with 45 respondents (93.8%). Chi-Square Statistical test result obtained p value = 0.000 (P < 0.05), so Ha accepted Ho rejected.

Conclusion: There is significant correlation of hand-washing habits with the incidence of occupational contact dermatitis on workshop workers in Kelurahan Batu Besar Batam Ci
